Symbols Used For the Bible

Part Eight

Various symbols are used to help us better understand the practical impact it can have on our lives

A Mirror

James 1:23-25 – For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man shall be blessed in what he does.

It’s called a mirror because it reflects the mind of God and the true condition of man

A Seed

James 1:18 – In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we might be, as it were, the first fruits among His creatures.

Water

Eph. 5:25-27 – Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her; that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should be holy and blameless.

2 Pet. 1:19 – And so we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place…

It’s called a lamp because it guides us with it’s light and keeps us from falling

A Sword

Eph. 6:17 – And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Heb. 4:12 – For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

1 Pet. 2:2 – like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,

It’s referred to as nourishing food because of the strength it imparts
